Shooting On The Green...Screen That Is!!!!

Green chroma screens have become more and more popular in recent years. The relative brightness of green makes it a bad choice for shooting blonde hair though, which is a lot easier to key against blue backgrounds. Using a green screen can help you create amazing video without leaving your studio. You won’t necessarily have to go to the expense of location shoots, the green screen technique will make it seem as if you actually did.

Video editing software, such as Final Cut Pro removes the green background from the video clip, and fills in the empty space with the picture from another video clip. A good example is the weather reports shown on television, which shows the weatherman standing in front of a green screen while the animation displays maps and graphics. The green background of the video is replaced by the animation.

You will want to make sure your subjects do not wear green and you will also need to avoid green props or other objects. As well as avoiding green, you will probably notice that some colors and shades work better than others. For example, dark colored clothes may create more of a green rim around foreground objects than light colors. As with any type of video, practice is very important and you need to experiment with lots of different colors.
