
In Internet marketing, conversion optimization is the science and art of creating a unique experience for a website visitor, with the goal of converting that visitor into a customer. More simply put, it is the process of making it easier for a visitor to buy from you. Sounds complicated, but it is really simple common sense.
Conversion optimization begins with site analysis and thinking like a user. So, take a look at your site from a non-company perspective: as an end-user:
- How does the site look to you?
- How is the navigation?
- Is the information useful or useless?
The next step in conversion optimization is studying your competitor's sites; how does their functionality compare to yours? What features do they have that are more appealing? How safe is their site? You should also look at the high ranking, main contenders, such as Amazon or Ebay; what features is your site lacking?
