Isn't it Ironic, Don'tcha Think... (a rant)#@!&*

A few days ago, we posted an article in our blog about the qualities that make a model a model-in-demand. Obviously, the girl we were supposed to work with yesterday didn't read the article! A good model is professional -- which means arriving on schedule, or calling if something unexpected comes up that delays his/her arrival. The girl we were scheduled to work with yesterday just plain old didn't show up... and 36 hours later, still hasn't called or even emailed to explain or apologize.
Obviously, we'll never use this model again. Models, please understand this... there is NO ONE so beautiful or perfect for a job that they cannot be replaced. Modeling is a JOB, and if you want to make it in this difficult profession, you must be Professional at all times! Hopeful models contact us every day - a few of them will make it, most of them won't - but rest assured that the ones that we will hire and recommend to others are the ones that recognize they are employees as well as co-creators. If you want to impress a photographer, consider doing the following things:
1. call the day before to confirm your call time
2. ask what is required of you regarding wardrobe, hair & makeup for the shoot - ask if you
should arrive with makeup & hair complete, or if you should do it at the shoot
3. be EARLY!
4. provide the photographer with several means of contacting you, i.e. phone and email
5. know the concept of the shoot BEFORE you start shooting
6. ask questions if you don't understand, don't pretend that since you are a model you ALWAYS know what you are doing during a shoot
7. be willing to take direction - the photographer knows what he needs for the shoot
8. recognize that unless you (the model) is paying the photographer, he/she is the BOSS - if there is an Art Director for the shoot, HE is the Boss. You, the model, are an employee!

Of course, this isn't a comprehensive list - but hopefully you get the point. We LOVE working with all models that act in a business-like manner. This doesn't mean you can't have fun on the shoot - in fact, quite the contrary. When everyone knows their job, we get great images and have a blast doing it!
As always, feel free to ask us anything about what we've written here....

Business Cards... discovery through trial and error

We recently received a new set of business cards that we had ordered, and are very pleased with them. As photographers, we have had issues with finding a company that could print our photographs on business cards for a reasonable price, without compromising the quality of our image. In an attempt to keep the quality ultra-high, we spent 2 years printing and cutting our own cards. The quality of our images thus met our standards, but it was extremely tedious and time-consuming to do it that way. We then went to a postcard-sized commercial print of our images (4x6), which we used during the last year... this was beautiful, and showed our images off very nicely, but was basically WAY TOO BIG for most people to carry home with them in their wallet.
So, we went the 'traditional' route, and ordered regular-sized cards, with four of our images. We put only the image on the front of the card (no text), put our business text on the back, and had both sizes coated. We have to say, WOW, we are really happy with the cards we received. If you're interested in knowing where we ordered them from, drop us a line and ask, we recommend the company very highly now! Here are the images we used...& the company.
